Scrapper Blackwell
February 21, 1903 – October 7, 1962
The man who recorded Mr. Blackwell's final recordings, during the frenzy of the American Folk Revival, was drawn to his residence by an African-American acquaintance who exclaimed that Mr. Blackwell could "play the guitar so it makes the hair stand up on your neck". At the time of their meeting, having largely retired after the death of his friend Mr. Leroy Carr decades earlier, Mr. Blackwell didn't even own a guitar. Yet, some of his most memorable recordings were yet to be created.
